A coalition of far-left groups and donors are already putting plans in place to actively block a second Trump Administration’s agenda in the event that former President Donald Trump wins again in November of 2024.
According to the Daily Caller, some of the organizations involved include Protect Democracy, Georgetown University’s Institution for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP), and Democracy Forward. These are among the many other groups that are financially backed by the far-left billionaire George Soros and his international network, as well as other left-wing mega-donors such as eBay founder Pierre Omidyar.
As detailed in an extensive NBC News article, the groups openly admit to their desire to file legal challenges to block President Trump from implementing his agenda. They also claim, with no evidence, that President Trump would use the military to act as a dictator once back in office.
“We are preparing for litigation and preparing to use every tool in the toolbox that our democracy provides to provide the American people an ability to fight back,” said Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward.
“We’re already starting to put together a team to think through the most damaging types of things that [Trump] might do so that we’re ready to bring lawsuits if we have to,” said Mary McCord, executive director of ICAP.
In addition to legal action, the groups also plan such tactics as writing generic draft letters to attempt to discourage possible Trump appointees from obeying him, and conducting research on which agenda items a second Trump term would focus on.
Groups in the coalition are already actively “studying Trump’s past actions and 2024 policy positions so that they will be ready if he wins in November,” further noting that “participants are combing through policy papers being crafted for a future conservative administration” and that they are “watching the interviews that Trump allies are giving to the press for clues.”
Protect Democracy, which includes the 501(c)(3) Protect Democracy Project and the 501(c)(4) United to Protect Democracy, was given $650,000 by Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society between 2018 and 2021. Between 2017 and 2020, Soros’ Open Society Policy Center gave another $1 million to United to Protect Democracy. Omidyar also gave the group about $1.3 million between 2017 and 2022, through his 501(c)(4) Democracy Fund Voice.
The conspiracy echoes the similar plot by left-wing groups and the mainstream media to steal the 2020 election from President Trump and swing it in Joe Biden’s favor, an effort which was ultimately successful and detailed comprehensively in a Time magazine article shortly after the election. The tone of the article and its participants suggest that some on the Left have already come to terms with the increasing likelihood that President Trump will win in November, as polls have consistently given him an edge over the increasingly unpopular incumbent, Joe Biden.
